What is a Certificate of Conformity (CE)?
A CE certificate is an official and important document that confirms that a product complies with all applicable European Union directives and regulations.
Types of certification:
VOLUNTARY (most common) and MANDATORY (for certain types of products).
In most cases, certification is voluntary and is used to increase sales or facilitate access to distribution channels. It can be a requirement of a specific market, platform, tender platforms or electronic markets such as marketplaces. It is like a pass to closed business events where the most important deals take place.
In some countries, such as Germany, Austria, or Greece, even voluntary certification often becomes a prerequisite for sales, as without it, products are simply not bought. It’s like knowing the local language – you can do without it, but it makes it much easier to do business with.

For example, one scheme applies to machines, while radio equipment, pressure vessels, or personal protective equipment require special procedures with the mandatory involvement of a certified body. In such cases, it is necessary to undergo special tests in accredited laboratories or conduct a production audit.
Equipment certification process
Products subject to mandatory certification have different schemes depending on the type of product. For example, for machinery, a declaration of conformity is first prepared and then submitted to a certification body for confirmation. In other cases, such as for radio equipment or pressure vessels, there are special certification schemes: first, specific laboratory tests or possibly a production audit are carried out, and only then is a certificate issued. These procedures depend on the applicable directives and certification modules (A, B, C, etc.).

Module A: manufacturer’s self-declaration
Module B: mandatory conformity assessment by a notified body
Module C and above: production analysis
Certification can be carried out:
